"The Serpent" is a card owned by my client. A spirit of cunning and knowledge, holding both venom and antidote. The Serpent is a patron of assassins and physicians alike. Many come to the Serpent to strike a bargain for knowledge - whether it is forbidden, lost, or simply unknown - all come to the Serpent to learn. Many stories of would-be heroes turning to the Serpent often begin when lives are in the balance. While the Serpent holds no altruism in its heart, it can be placated and reasoned with, and it always upholds its end of the bargain. The Serpent passes no judgment as to the motivation of mortals, for it cares not what mortal hands and minds do with the knowledge it allows to be passed on. In the ancient stories, the nation of Lybrach was cast into ruin when the leader of that nation offered the soul of the nation as collateral in a deal with the Serpent and failed to live up to the bargain. It is said that the Serpent now dwells within the empty deserts of Lybrach, which is why the area is known as the Slithering Sands.
