The Cairn

"The Cairn" is a card owned by my client.

A sacred place to the Wydriothi and the Brayfolk (wild elves and beastfolk). Cairns come in many different forms, wherever made from grandstanding stones that have been inscribed with the primal runes of many generations, or a small stack of smooth river stones on a humble mantelpiece at home. All Cairns are bridges for spirits to cross back into Etheron from the Drift (the spirit realm/afterlife). On nights when the Veil between the Drift and the Material is thin, families gather around their tribal or personal Cairns as they hope to see honorable spirits and ancestors enter back into the realm of the living. The spirit of the Cairn is suffused with the ritual power of each physical cairn in the world and is often called upon in other magical rituals by the wild folk. Most large Cairns are inscribed with powerful warding runes that keep unwanted spirits or outsiders (demons) from crossing the openings they create.
